{"id":682035,"date":"2026-03-26T01:38:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T01:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/682035\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T01:38:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T01:38:18","slug":"philadelphia-bars-to-stay-open-until-4-am-for-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/682035\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia bars to stay open until 4\u202fAM for World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/go8d15fw8qr6t1lh.jpg\" alt=\"Market East to get $1.85M grant for enhancements ahead of FIFA World Cup\" class=\"sr-only\" data-v-4292be72=\"\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\"><strong>PHILADELPHIA<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/fox29.com\/tag\/us\/pa\/philadelphia\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Philadelphia<\/a> bars could be open until 4 a.m. this summer, during the <a href=\"https:\/\/fox29.com\/tag\/world-cup\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">FIFA World Cup<\/a> and the city&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/fox29.com\/tag\/america-250\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">America 250<\/a> celebrations, after a bill in the state legislature passed one of its last major hurdles on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>   Philadelphia&#8217;s 4 a.m. bar bill <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"WTXF\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-f1afc186=\"\">The backstory:<\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\">Currently, bars in <a href=\"https:\/\/fox29.com\/tag\/us\/pa\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Pennsylvania<\/a> are not allowed to sell alcohol <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pa.gov\/agencies\/psp\/contact-psp\/bureau-and-office-directory\/liquor-control-enforcement\/guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">after 2 a.m<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palegis.us\/legislation\/bills\/text\/PDF\/2025\/0\/SB1218\/PN1510\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Senate Bill 1218<\/a> would extend that deadline temporarily, only during Philadelphia&#8217;s America 250 celebrations and the upcoming FIFA World Cup, and apply only to businesses within city limits.<\/p>\n<p> Bill set for final vote <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"WTXF\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-f1afc186=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\">The bill passed the State Senate last week, and after a unanimous vote Wednesday from the House Appropriations Committee, all that&#8217;s left is a final House vote before the bill would hit Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/fox29.com\/tag\/people\/josh-shapiro\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Josh Shapiro<\/a>&#8216;s desk.<\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\">If enacted, the law would amend the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.state.pa.us\/WU01\/LI\/LI\/US\/PDF\/1951\/0\/0021..PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">state&#8217;s liquor code<\/a> to let businesses apply for a temporary permit to extend their hours. That permit would only be valid between June 11, 2026, and July 20, 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\">The World Cup begins on June 11. Philadelphia&#8217;s first of six matches is just days later, on June 14.<\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox29.com\/news\/2026-fifa-world-cup-philadelphia-schedule\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>RELATED: FIFA World Cup schedule: When are matches in Philadelphia?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\">Businesses hoping to stay open later this summer will have to pay a $500 application fee, and submit the application at least 30 days before the day it would take effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"WTXF\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-f1afc186=\"\">What&#8217;s next:<\/p>\n<p data-v-f1afc186=\"\">It&#8217;s not clear when exactly the Pennsylvania House will vote on the bill.
