Of course, the Chicago Bears were one of the interested teams during the NFL offseason, when Crosby was being actively traded. Head coach Ben Johnson didn’t go through with it, and instead, Crosby was traded to the Baltimore Ravens on March 6.

But, we all know what happened. Within a few days of the trade, the Ravens untraded him, and Crosby was back to being a “Raider for life.” No player is anything for life in the NFL, though, it’s it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Crosby would get traded again during the offseason or before the trade deadline in the fall.

So, if the Chicago Bears still want Crosby, they have a chance to get him. But, some of the player’s comments are raising an eyebrow. During the Tuesday, March 17 episode of his podcast show, “The Rush With Maxx Crosby,” the player opened up about his Ravens experience. He said it was “probably one of the most unique, crazy, wild, up-and-down roller coasters I’ve ever been a part of.”

Maxx Crosby Comments Draw a Skeptical Eye, Chicago Bears Should Note

During the show, Crosby said he didn’t meet with Ravens head coach Jesse Minter until after his physical and also rattled off other timeline details. On meeting general manager Eric DeCosta, Crosby said, “I didn’t get to see the GM at all. I thought I was gonna see him when I first got there. I didn’t see him for five hours.”

Crosby added, “I don’t know why. I am not going to speculate. I even asked, ‘Where’s Eric (DeCosta)?’ You know what I mean? He just made the trade. I didn’t see him for five hours.”

In a Tuesday, March 24, feature, ESPN’s Ryan McFadden shared insider insight into the ordeal. According to McFadden, the reason Baltimore decided not to do it was because they were worried about the discovery of a degenerative problem that surfaced in his surgically repaired knee.

Also, it’s worth noting that in his report, the Baltimore Ravens pushed back on Crosby’s statement about the timeline of him meeting with management.

Maxx Crosby Statement Gets Pushback

In a Wednesday, March 25 piece for the Baltimore Ravens’ official website, reporter Kevin Eck notes that, “On a side note, McFadden noted in his article that Crosby said on his podcast that he had been at the Ravens’ facility for five hours before he met Head Coach Jesse Minter and General Manager Eric DeCosta. However, the following addendum to the article disputed Crosby’s recollection.”

That addendum stated, “After this story was published, a source indicated Minter and other defensive coaches met with Crosby within minutes of him walking into the team facility. DeCosta, who was trying to keep his own free agents and sign others on the first day of the legal tampering period, met with Crosby later that afternoon.”

If the Chicago Bears want a player they can truly trust in Crosby, that’s just another detail that should get their attention.

Anne Erickson is an award-winning reporter for Heavy Sports covering the NFL, NBA and college football.
