{"id":683521,"date":"2026-03-26T16:36:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T16:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/683521\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T16:36:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T16:36:12","slug":"lukashenko-and-kim-jong-un-sign-friendship-treaty-in-pyongyang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/683521\/","title":{"rendered":"Lukashenko and Kim Jong Un sign friendship treaty in Pyongyang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Belarus\u2019 President <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/alexander-lukashenko\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alexander Lukashenko<\/a> and North Korean leader <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/kim-jong-un\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kim Jong Un<\/a> held talks in North Korea\u2019s capital on Thursday and signed a friendship and cooperation treaty.<\/p>\n<p>Lukashenko, who was in Pyongyang on a <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/north-korea-belarus-kim-jong-un-lukashenko-7b96ba10d853afbb4aa3cfe9f91f208f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">two-day official visit,<\/a> hailed the document as \u201cfundamental,\u201d and said that relations between the two countries are \u201centering a new stage,\u201d according to his press service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, we didn\u2019t have close cooperation, largely due to our own fault. But I am sincerely pleased to note that cooperation has now significantly intensified,\u201d Lukashenko said.<\/p>\n<p>Belarusian and North Korean officials also signed a number of other agreements and memorandums on cooperation in specific areas, such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and others. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn today\u2019s reality of a global transformation, when the global powers openly ignore and violate international law, independent countries need to cooperate more closely, consolidate efforts aimed at protecting their sovereignty and improving the well-being of our citizens,\u201d Lukashenko said.<\/p>\n<p>Lukashenko\u2019s press service quoted Kim expressing \u201csolidarity and full support\u201d for Belarus and speaking out \u201cagainst unlawful pressure on Belarus from the West.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lukashenko also attended a concert together with Kim, and a formal reception hosted by the North Korean leader. <\/p>\n<p>The two leaders exchanged gifts as well. Kim presented Lukashenko with a sword and a large vase bearing the image of the Belarusian leader, while Lukashenko gave Kim an assault rifle manufactured in Belarus, among other things. \u201cJust in case enemies show up,\u201d Lukashenko said.<\/p>\n<p>Belarus is a close ally of Russia.
