{"id":683924,"date":"2026-03-26T20:36:21","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T20:36:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/683924\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T20:36:21","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T20:36:21","slug":"crown-point-junior-music-academys-annual-art-show-celebrates-the-year-of-the-horse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/683924\/","title":{"rendered":"Crown Point Junior Music Academy\u2019s annual art show celebrates \u2018The Year of the Horse\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lots of \u201coohs\u201d and \u201caahs\u201d were heard from children streaming into the Crown Point Junior Music Academy\u2019s auditorium when the doors were opened for the school\u2019s art show on March 13.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme, \u201cThe Year of the Horse,\u201d was reflected in the art pieces created by Crown Point\u2019s older students who used several media.<\/p>\n<p>Younger students, those in transitional kindergarten and kindergarten, developed a smaller project titled \u201cEarth Is In Your Hands.\u201d They swirled colors in a circular pattern, with their final product framed with a recycled CD envelope that had its clear window serve as a frame.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"During a recent art lesson, Erin Pennell, admired the work of fourth graders, Fintan Kelly, lower left, and Lenora Mendlik. (Cyril A Reinicke)<\/p>\n<p>Erin Pennell, the artist in residence, owner and founder of Art FORM, chose the theme to highlight the Lunar New Year that was celebrating the Year of the Horse in 2026. Crown Point students learned about three famous artists, Marc Chagall, Franz Marc and Deborah Butterfield, and their extensive use of the horse in their art pieces and sculptures.<\/p>\n<p>Art FORM is a small local nonprofit art center that specializes in the creative reuse of found and recycled materials to the greatest extent possible in each and every art lesson.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Fifth grader Emmett Summers with the horse sculpture he made from found and recycled materials in the style of sculpturist Deborah Butterfield. (Erin Pennell)<\/p>\n<p>This is the fifth year for Pennell to provide Crown Point students with structured art lessons at regular intervals for each grade level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne special part about working with students is seeing their development both during the school year, and over several grades\/years,\u201d Pennell said. \u201cFrom my view, it\u2019s in leaps and bounds. It is a treasure to see their skills grow. It is also a treat to see them respond to recycled materials or out-of-the-box projects, true to Art FORM.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The students\u2019 work throughout the school year culminates in an annual art show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArt FORM has been such a gift to our school community over the past five years,\u201d said mom Liz Garcia, who attended the art show with her family. \u201cIt brings creativity to life in a way that feels exciting and is truly joyful for our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Aaron and Liz Garcia brought their children, Quinn, Avery and Zoey, to Crown Point Junior Music Academy's annual art show on March 13.
