JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 The recent move by Jacksonville City Council President Kevin Carrico to remove Democratic Councilman Jimmy Peluso<\/a> (District 7) from his only committee assignment is raising questions over whether this will hurt Peluso\u2019s ability to represent his constituents.<\/p>\n

The decision was made after Peluso chose to boycott the Transportation, Energy & Utilities Committee\u2019s first meeting with Carrico as president Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

We asked Councilman Peluso if this would hurt his ability to represent his district, and he said he wasn\u2019t worried. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was always sidelined from the main committees anyway,\u201d said Councilman Peluso. \u201cMy bills still go to the main committees, and the bills speak for themselves.\u201d <\/p>\n

President Carrico told us he could reconsider appointing Councilman Peluso to the committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is going to be a whole year, and I\u2019m not looking to punish people and be vindictive,\u201d said President Carrico. \u201cAnyone can climb their way out of the basement if you will, so if he wants to sit down and talk about what that looks like, then I\u2019d be happy to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peluso also said he\u2019s willing to talk. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a whole year,\u201d said Peluso. \u201cOn a personal level, Kevin and I, we can work well together. I know we can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan told us the two councilmen need to try to work out their differences themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to say, as I\u2019ve said so many times, I want to see us all put our love for Jacksonville first and work together on our shared priorities to move the city forward,\u201d said Mayor Deegan. \u201cAnd that\u2019s my hope for this situation, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next City Council meeting is July 22nd.<\/p>\n
