San Antonio \u2014 Hero in the Dark: Security Guard Rescues Two Sisters from Wreck Caused by Alleged Drunk Driver<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re her guardian angel for life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The heartbreak is still fresh.<\/p>\n

Seven-year-old Aliyah quietly returns to the place where her stepmother, Karina Ramirez, was killed in a violent crash allegedly caused by an alleged drunk driver. Her family says their lives \u201cwere turned upside down.\u201d<\/p>\n

The head-on collision happened last month on Harry Wurzbach near Eisenhauer. Karina didn\u2019t survive. But in the backseat, two girls \u2014 Aliyah and her 12-year-old stepsister Skyla \u2014 were critically injured.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe femur, which is the largest bone in the body, was broken completely in half,\u201d said their grandmother, Melanie. \u201cShe required two rods placed in from her knee all the way to the top of her leg.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skyla now depends on a wheelchair. Her broken jaw forces her to drink all her meals through a straw. She \u201ccan barely open her mouth,\u201d Melanie added.<\/p>\n

Two families, forever changed \u2014 but incredibly, both girls survived.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because of a stranger named Cameron Wilkerson.<\/p>\n

The security officer was just starting his shift at Urban Crest Apartments when he saw the crash. Without hesitation, he jumped into action.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s my hero. My daughter\u2019s hero. My granddaughter\u2019s hero,\u201d said Melanie.<\/p>\n

Wilkerson blocked traffic with his truck. He rushed to the burning wreck, reached inside, and shut off the car to prevent a fire. Then, he smashed a front window and pulled Skyla from the wreck, carrying her 100 feet away.<\/p>\n

But Aliyah was still missing inside the car.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe asked one more time, \u2018Is anyone in here?\u2019 And my granddaughter said, \u2018I\u2019m back here, but my leg is broken.\u2019 He couldn\u2019t get the door open, so he had to break the window out,\u201d Melanie recalled.<\/p>\n

Cameron saved both girls\u2019 lives.<\/p>\n

In a powerful reunion, Cameron finally met the family he saved.<\/p>\n
