A man fatally shot<\/a> a woman and a girl in a car Friday in the Birdville Stadium parking lot in Haltom City before dying by suicide, police officials said.<\/p>\n

Officers were dispatched shortly before 4:30 p.m. to the stadium parking lot in the 6100 block of East Belknap after receiving reports of a shooting, the news release said.<\/p>\n

More than a dozen police and emergency vehicles surrounded a U-Haul truck cordoned off with caution tape outside the stadium. Officers established a perimeter around the rental vehicle at the stadium.<\/p>\n

Haltom City Police Sgt. Rick Alexander said a man arrived at the scene in a U-Haul and confronted the victims inside another vehicle.\u200b<\/p>\n

\u201cAt some point, it looks like he shot into the car and unfortunately killed both of the females inside the vehicle,\u201d Alexander said during a Friday evening news conference. \u201cShortly after that, we believe he took his own life.\u201d Detectives recovered a gun near the man. <\/p>\n

Alexander declined to provide specifics, including ages, but confirmed one child was among the deceased.\u200b <\/p>\n

He said the three individuals were known to each other. Their identities were not released. <\/p>\n

\u200bThe shooting occurred on Birdville Independent School District property as afternoon activities were concluding, but police said there is currently no known connection between the victims and the school district.<\/p>\n

Birdville ISD didn\u2019t immediately return a request.<\/p>\n

The police department expects to release a formal update Monday.<\/p>\n
