Over the past decade or so, Wes Scantlin<\/a> has become a walking punchline, thanks to his numerous arrests and onstage meltdowns. However, the Puddle of Mudd<\/a> frontman insists his actions are not as bad as media headlines make them out to be.<\/p>\n

Just in the past few years alone, Scantlin has been arrested for trespassing<\/a>, pepper-balled by a SWAT team<\/a>, and arrested for felony domestic violence<\/a>, among other legal issues. Earlier this year, he blamed an ex-bandmate for slipping him roofies<\/a> in explaining a disastrous show at Daytona Bike Week.<\/p>\n

Now, in a new interview with SiriusXM\u2019s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk<\/a>\u00a0(as transcribed by Blabbermouth<\/a>), the Puddle of Mudd singer-guitarist says his troubles have been blown out of proportion.<\/p>\n

\u201c[My] main goal [is] just [to] stay out of trouble,\u201d Scantlin told Trunk when asked about his run-ins with the law. \u201cAnd I really seriously don\u2019t really do that much wrong things. I really just don\u2019t. But I\u2019m like a big fish in the little pond. I call myself a Christmas dinner trophy for the Poppo. I wonder how many times they\u2019ve explained that they arrested me at their Christmas dinner, at Christmas day. I\u2019m telling you, man. I\u2019m just a big, huge trophy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cI\u2019ve made some mistakes, but at certain points I could breathe in the wrong direction and get cuffed and slammed in a dungeon. Shoot, man. It\u2019s weird. My whole thing, my whole motto is turn around and run for your life as fast as you possibly can, man. I\u2019m talking about maybe like a girlfriend or something [not the police]. If they hit the \u2018psycho wall,\u2019 as I call it \u2014 turn around and run\u2026 Somebody\u2019s gotta go down, and they usually pick me, \u2019cause I\u2019m the trophy. But my motto is turn around and run as fast as you can and just run.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for his revolving door of bandmates over the years, Scantlin hopes the current Puddle of Mudd lineup \u2014 Michael Anthony Grajewski on bass, Miles Schon (son of Journey\u2019s Neal Schon) on guitar, and Jon Smith on drums \u2014 will stick around for a while.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now everything\u2019s solid, and I pray to God that no one leaves me again,\u201d said Scantlin. \u201cPlease, dear God above, do not let any of these people leave. It\u2019s hard to make \u2014 the transitions are a pain in the butt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Puddle of Mudd have a smattering of tour dates scheduled throughout the summer, with tickets to select shows available here<\/a>.
