Welcome to the high school softball edition of the Fastball, a Star-Telegram series highlighting Fort Worth-area teams. See coverage and results.<\/p>\n

Richland stays on top in 6-5A, holds off Argyle<\/p>\n

North Richland Hills Richland stayed atop the District 6-5A standings by holding off Argyle 4-3 on Friday at Richland High School.<\/p>\n

Richland (24-2 overall, 7-0 district) got a 2-out single from Alyssa Flores in the bottom of the first and Kennedy Parry followed that with a 2-run bomb to center for a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Argyle (10-15, 4-3) cut the lead to 2-1 when Sloane McCown doubled in Brooklyn Barnett in the third. Lauryn Gamez drove in 2 with a single to center in the bottom of the sixth for Richland to up the lead to 4-1.<\/p>\n

Stacy Jennings, who tossed 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs with 12 strikeouts and 6 walks, allowed a one-out walk to Reagan King in the top of the seventh and Noelle Witty followed that with a homer to center to cut the lead to 4-3.<\/p>\n

Jennings, however, got a pop out to short and line out to first to end the inning and the game. Flores went 2 for 3 at the dish with 2 runs scored for the Royals.<\/p>\n

McCown went 3 for 4 with a double and an rbi. Presley Hawkesworth allowed 7 hits in 6 innings with 4 earned runs striking out 7 and walking none.<\/p>\n
