Legal AI firm Harvey (No.17) has <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/11b-san-francisco-legal-ai-startup-harvey-to-open-dallas-office\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently expanded into the region<\/a>\u2014and announced a multi-year partnership with the Dallas Mavericks and American Airlines Center, becoming their official and exclusive legal AI partner\u2014underscoring the area\u2019s growing pull for high-growth tech firms.<\/p>\n<p>Other top 50 companies in Texas<\/p>\n<p>Texas, meanwhile, placed three companies in the top 50. Alongside HKS, Austin-based <strong>AMD<\/strong> (No. 13; No. 1 in Consumer Electronics) was recognized for transformative tech, and defense startup <strong>Saronic<\/strong> (No. 36; No. 1 in Defense Tech) earned honors for its breakthrough launch.<\/p>\n<p>Like HKS, both companies topped their respective categories, reinforcing Texas\u2019 presence not just on the list\u2014but at the top of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While Fast Company\u2019s list starts with 50 companies, hundreds of companies also earned a \u201cMost Innovative\u201d nod across 59 industry and thematic categories.<\/p>\n<p>From the Top 50 to 720 \u201cMost Innovative Companies\u201d: Where DFW shows up<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In total, seven DFW companies spanning architecture, healthcare, aviation, enterprise software, AI, dining, and digital media appeared across the 2026 list, each recognized for a distinct kind of innovation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>HKS (No. 31 overall; No. 1 in Architecture)<\/b> \u2014 The Dallas-based firm\u2019s ranking was driven by its work on Astra Tower in Salt Lake City, a high-rise designed to filter polluted air at scale. This month Joby was selected for the <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/faa-selects-future-texas-air-taxi-networks-for-advanced-air-mobility-pilot-program\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">White House-backed Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Integration Pilot Program<\/a> (eIPP), which includes Texas as one of its early operational states.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, this year\u2019s Fast Company-ranked companies have an unusually high concentration of activity in Dallas-Fort Worth. While they may not have global HQs here, the region has become a primary \u201cliving lab\u201d for their technology.<\/p>\n<p>At the infrastructure level, long-standing operational ties anchor that ecosystem. Overland Park, KS-based <strong>NoTraffic<\/strong> (No. 1) is deploying AI-powered traffic signals across dozens of intersections\u2014including approximately 30 in the Entertainment District ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup\u2014to reduce congestion and improve safety, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/tarrant-county\/arlington-texas-using-ai-platform-to-reduce-congestion-ahead-world-cup\/287-4bb874a8-6dca-4df8-83a9-12cc84eea7a7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WFAA<\/a> and others.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0 Ann Arbor, MI-based <strong>May Mobility<\/strong> (No. 2) had a RAPID autonomous transit service pilot partnership with the city and UT Arlington that concluded in May 2025. San Francisco, CA-based <strong>Lyft<\/strong> (No. 11) announced the launch of a <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/lyft-is-launching-a-robotaxi-service-in-dallas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mobileye-powered autonomous fleet<\/a> in the region in 2026, while Mountain View, CA-based <strong>Nuro<\/strong> (No. 7) is using Dallas as a core market for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuro.ai\/blog\/paving-the-way-for-autonomy-in-dallas-miami-and-san-diego\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">zero-occupant delivery vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On the ground, Santa Monica, CA-based <strong>Veo<\/strong> (No. 5) has embedded its <a href=\"https:\/\/downtownarlington.org\/post\/rentable-bikes-and-scooters-are-rolling-into-downtown#:~:text=Get%20ready%20to%20roll%2C%20UTA,to%20pedestrians%2C%20and%20park%20responsibly.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">micromobility fleet<\/a>\u2014e-bikes, scooters, and cargo bikes\u2014across Arlington and the UT Arlington campus to address the \u201clast-mile\u201d challenge.<\/p>\n<p>The region\u2019s influence extends beyond roads into adjacent systems shaping the future of mobility. The service went live on Feb. 24 for \u201ctrusted testers\u201d and select waitlist users, with plans to expand to the general public later this year.
