A New York couple are charged with conning an elderly Seaford man out of a large amount of money, using a so-called “courier scam.”<\/p>\n

The 84-year-old victim was using his computer last Wednesday morning when he was locked out by a pop-up ad that told him to call a phone number for help, Delaware State Police said.<\/p>\n

When the victim called, he was coerced into withdrawing money from his bank account, and ordered to give it to a courier who’d be at his home the next morning.<\/p>\n

While the victim was talking to troopers, the scammers called him to demand more money, and police were able to identify 51-year-old Dongjun Zou and 47-year-old Wulian Fan as the alleged con artists.<\/p>\n

Detectives pulled over Zou’s SUV and took him and Fan to Troop 4, where they were charged with conspiracy and trying to steal $1500 or more from a victim 62 or older–Zou was also charged with theft of $1500 or more from a victim 62 or older, and acquiring and transporting proceeds of criminal activity.<\/p>\n

Zou and Fan were released on unsecured bonds.<\/p>\n
