The starting quarterback turned heads as a true freshman last season, but the time is now for him to make a big jump and look like a new signal-caller at the same time. Wait, what?

Bryce Underwood, with a chip on his shoulder, should scare the rest of the Big Ten

That’s right, Underwood has taken his offseason quite seriously, which included him working out with QB guru Jordan Palmer. Now, he’s working closely with Koy Detmer Jr. in Ann Arbor and you can already see the impact that’s being made. Take a look at the highlights below and you’ll be able to see that Underwood truly looks like a different QB. The throwing motion and mechanics? Yup, it all looks way more polished:

It’s looking like Bryce’s throwing mechanics have improved quite a bit

Setting feet, follow through etc etc.

I know it’s just spring practice but I feel like Bryce is finally getting the coaching he deserved all along #GoBlue〽️ pic.twitter.com/9o7Yq3KLO8

— 〽️arshall 〽️atters (@Big_Lance76) March 29, 2026

Bryce Underwood cleaning up his mechanics will be huge for Michigan in 2026

While fans don’t want to get overly excited from a short video, it’s hard to ignore just how much cleaner Underwood looked there on multiple occasions. The top priority for Michigan was to get him proper coaching and already it looks like that decision has paid off.

Recently, new head coach Kyle Whittingham made it clear that he wants Underwood to use his legs and open up the offense a little bit that way. At the same time, the Wolverines also want him to be crisp with his passing and to keep the overthrows to a minimum.

Last campaign, there were plenty of ups and downs for the youngster, as the expectations were massive for him. On the year, the 6-4, 228-pounder tossed for 2,428 yards and 11 touchdowns, but the nine interceptions were concerning. The hope is he’ll take a big-time jump in ’26.

In order for that to happen, offensive coordinator Jason Beck will need to cater the play-calling to best fit Underwood, knowing he can hurt the opposition with his cannon for a right arm and his impressive wheels. There’s still a long way to go before Week 1 gets here, but the positive steps Underwood is taking already this spring should have people quite fired up.

What’s coming up for his sophomore season?
