Michigan football <\/a>head coach Kyle Whittingham just landed his first commitments <\/a>with the Wolverines, but he might have to worry about one of the previous pledges in the 2027 class.<\/p>\n

That’s because Notre Dame is working on a flip. Three-star offensive lineman Louis Esposito<\/a>, the son of former defensive line coach Lou Esposito, reaffirmed his commitment after Whittingham was hired.<\/p>\n

However, his dad is no longer on the coaching staff, deciding to take a job with the Ravens. That’s not a bad look for Michigan. It’s not like he was let go, and there is bad blood. Yet, you can see Esposito wanting to look around with his dad no longer on the staff.<\/p>\n

This weekend, the three-star offensive line recruit took a visit to Notre Dame, where Marcus Freeman is looking to flip the talent propsect away from the Wolverines. <\/p>\n

Notre Dame jumps in the mix with an offer, which could be trouble<\/p>\n

Before Esposito took the visit, he didn’t have an offer. But according to Allen Trieu of Rivals<\/a>, that offered followed, as Freeman and the Irish extended it over the weekend.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to know how impactful that offer will prove to be. Michigan football and Notre Dame are often battling over recruits. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive tackle has a mean streak, so he would be a perfect fit for Michigan. Jim Harding is also among the best O-line coaches in college football. He’s expected to have two former pupils from Utah drafted in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft.<\/a><\/p>\n

So the Wolverines have plenty of things to sell. Esposito is ranked No. 959 overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Out of Saline, he’s ranked 17th in the state of Michigan. <\/p>\n

Notre Dame joins a growing offer list that includes Louisville, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Penn State,<\/a> USC, and of course, Michigan. He’s been committed to U-M since July 2025. <\/p>\n
