Katie Hobbs vetoes bill to rename Loop 202 after Charlie Kirk, accused of breaking \u2018tradition\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed a bill Friday that was to rename the entirety of Arizona\u2019s 78-mile long Loop 202 after the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State Senate President Warren Petersen\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-politics-news\/loop-202-charlie-kirk\/5751282\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">introduced the idea<\/a>\u00a0shortly after Kirk\u2019s assassination last September, and in a statement, accused Hobbs of breaking \u201ca long-standing Arizona tradition of recognizing impact over politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dismissal of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.azleg.gov\/BillStatus\/BillOverview\/83585\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Senate Bill 1010<\/a>, which would have dubbed the freeway \u201cCharlie Kirk Loop 202,\u201d comes after Hobbs vetoed a prior bill (SB 1439) on March 6 that proposed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-politics-news\/charlie-kirk-license-plate\/5833378\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">specialty license plate for Kirk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-news\/adot-5-new-specialty-license-plates\/5841073\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ADOT unveils 5 new specialty license plates, update of Arizona Diamondbacks version<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Five specialty license plates have joined the ever-expanding lineup available for Arizona drivers, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Motorists can now purchase, for $25 per year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/azdot.gov\/news\/adot-unveils-five-new-specialty-license-plates-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">plates<\/a>\u00a0that support the following causes: No One Fights Alone, Teen Lifeline, 4AZKids, Arizona Youth Charities and Gila River Indian Community.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, ADOT said it has refreshed its existing Arizona Diamondbacks specialty plate and is offering the theme for motorcycles as well.<\/p>\n<p>The newest five specialty plates are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-news\/adot-license-plates-charity\/5784335\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">among 114 options<\/a>\u00a0Arizonans have to choose from, and ADOT said more than $14.5 million has gone toward state charities for plate sales as of June 30, 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-traffic\/adot-northern-arizona-projects\/5841233\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ADOT will start, resume 6 Northern Arizona projects starting March 29<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The historic March heatwave has brought spring weather to Arizona and that means the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) can start or continue highway improvement projects soon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-traffic\/phoenix-freeway-closing-weekend\/5840838\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Projects<\/a>\u00a0that were shut down for the winter and new projects focused on paving roads and safety maintenance will get underway starting as early as March 29.<\/p>\n<p>There will be six projects going on this spring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-news\/womans-body-identity-scottsdale\/5841368\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Authorities identify woman\u2019s body found in canal in Scottsdale, investigation ongoing<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The woman who was found dead in a canal in Scottsdale on Saturday morning has been identified, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Scottsdale Police Department,\u00a028-year-old Passion Schurz, who was reported from the Salt River-Pima Maricopa Indian Community, was the woman found dead.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities were able to identify Schurz based on her\u00a0specific tattoos, her physical characteristics and clothing description, police said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-news\/valley-no-kings-protests\/5841280\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Arizonans gather around the Valley for \u2018No Kings\u2019 protests<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Arizonans gathered throughout the Valley on Saturday to join the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests, demonstrating their opposition to the direction of the country under President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>There were at least 20 protest locations across the Valley on Saturday and 82 across the state,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/indivisible.org\/?fbclid=IwY2xjawQ1M35leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETExMDk0cnVCd0dkOEFRZ1Juc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHmdh9e4Fd2V7-cIsA8tk09q9tXGk0i46I4yqf2lsgGiWBkSABYdC60tXvlzO_aem_htY2Y_e6q8zveVTVFwJdbQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Indivisible Arizona<\/a>\u2018s Jessica Marquis told\u00a0KTAR\u00a0News 92.3 FM.
