{"id":692989,"date":"2026-03-30T18:14:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T18:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/692989\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T18:14:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T18:14:16","slug":"raccoon-captured-near-pullen-road-in-raleigh-tests-positive-for-rabies-wral-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/692989\/","title":{"rendered":"Raccoon captured near Pullen Road in Raleigh tests positive for rabies :: WRAL.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A rabid raccoon was found in Raleigh last week near Western<br \/>\nBoulevard. <\/p>\n<p>Someone reported seeing a raccoon showing signs consistent<br \/>\nwith symptoms of rabies around Western Boulevard and Pullen Road. <\/p>\n<p>An animal control officer with the Raleigh Police Department responded and was able to find<br \/>\nand capture the raccoon.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>After the animal was tested, it was found to be positive for<br \/>\nrabies.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/news\/local\/raccoon-tests-positive-rabies-chapel-hill-orange-county-mlk-blvd-umstead-dr-march-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a raccoon found in Chapel Hill between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Umstead Drive tested positive for rabies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you see unusual behavior or other concerns about animals in Raleigh, it<br \/>\nshould be reported immediately by calling 919-831-6311.<\/p>\n<p>Wake County health officials provide the following general<br \/>\ntips to help minimize rabies risks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Residents should not approach animals that they do not know.<\/li>\n<li>Residents should ensure their pets have a current rabies vaccination. If a pet is allowed outside, a booster vaccine is recommended. Outdoor pets should be kept inside until they receive booster vaccines.<\/li>\n<li>Do not feed stray or unknown animals, including cats and dogs.<\/li>\n<li>Do not leave trash or food outside unless it is in a trash can with a tight-fitting lid.<\/li>\n<li>If a pet is fed outside, do not leave food out overnight. If a pet comes in contact with an animal that might be rabid, contact a veterinarian immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A rabid raccoon was found in Raleigh last week near Western Boulevard.
