If you were in the sports world or seemingly anywhere, for that matter, you were not safe from Shane Gillis on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The comedian went in on almost every topic imaginable in his no-holds-barred monologue to open up the ESPY Awards<\/a> in Los Angeles. <\/p>\n

Gillis touched upon, among many other topics, Aaron Rodgers and his vaccine skepticism, Caitlin Clark and her potential post-WNBA life, Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson\u2019s relationship, Shohei Ohtani and his disgraced interpreter Ippei Mizuhara, Shedeur Sanders\u2019 Colorado number retirement and even President Donald Trump and Mets star Juan Soto. <\/p>\n

On social media, the ESPYs host was compared to the late Norm Macdonald, who delivered a polarizing monologue in 1998 that included a joke about O.J. Simpson, a popular target of Macdonald on \u201cSaturday Night Live.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gillis leaned into the comparison and delivered an ode to the same Simpson joke, this time replacing Charles Woodson\u2019s name with two-way Jaguars star Travis Hunter.<\/p>\n

The love-it-or-hate-it type of comedy Gillis brings to the table elicited a varied reaction on social media, to the surprise of no one. <\/p>\n

\u201cI thought Shane Gillis killed his monologue at the ESPYs. And he capped it off with a tribute to Norm Macdonald,\u201d wrote one user on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were offended by Shane Gillis ESPY\u2019s monologue I can assure you that no one likes to hang around you,\u201d one positive reviewer wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you boo that joke man,\u201d wrote another. \u201cPeople are so sensitive these days that was hilarious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean these are good,\u201d wrote another. \u201cJust let him host every year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, not everyone was digging the jokes.<\/p>\n

\u201cim not even offended this s\u2013t just straight up not funny lol so many people are bad at stand up and still try to do it anyway. waaaaaack,\u201d wrote one critic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m seeing all these jokes on my timeline,\u201d another added. \u201cBut none are really all that funny.
