{"id":694501,"date":"2026-03-31T09:31:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/694501\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T09:31:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:31:14","slug":"another-starlink-satellite-has-inexplicably-exploded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/694501\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Starlink satellite has inexplicably exploded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">SpaceX says it lost contact with a Starlink satellite after suffering an \u201canomaly.\u201d SpaceX isn\u2019t saying exactly what happened, but space-tracking company Leo Labs says it \u201cimmediately detected tens of objects in the vicinity\u201d of Starlink 34343 after the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cLatest analysis shows the event poses no new risk to the @Space_Station, its crew, or to the upcoming launch of NASA\u2019s Artemis II mission,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Starlink\/status\/2038635185118588973\" rel=\"nofollow\">says SpaceX<\/a> in a message posted to X. \u201cWe will continue to monitor the satellite along with any trackable debris and coordinate with @NASA and the @USSpaceForce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The satellite and fragments are expected to burn up in the atmosphere within a few weeks. SpaceX says it is working to determine the root cause.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The latest mishap occurred at about 560km above the Earth, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/space\/657113\/starlink-amazon-satellites\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">increasingly crowded area<\/a> known as low Earth orbit where over 24,000 objects, including debris and about 10,000 Starlink satellites, are currently being tracked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">In January, SpaceX requested approval from the FCC for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/871641\/spacex-fcc-1-million-solar-powered-data-centers-satellites-orbit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">up to one million satellites<\/a>\u201d to create orbital data centers. \u201cWe just recently gave a request for FCC licensing of up to a million AI satellites,\u201d said SpaceX president and chief operating officer Gwynne Shotwell in a <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/article\/2026\/03\/26\/spacex-gwynne-shotwell-full-interview\/#:~:text=I%20don\u2019t%20think,towards%20the%20goal.%C2%A0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recent Time profile<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m surprised that didn\u2019t get more news.
