{"id":6948,"date":"2025-06-23T03:12:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T03:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/6948\/"},"modified":"2025-06-23T03:12:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T03:12:10","slug":"mets-look-lifeless-again-as-theyre-clobbered-by-phillies-in-ugly-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/6948\/","title":{"rendered":"Mets look lifeless again as they&#8217;re clobbered by Phillies in ugly loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA \u2014 Summer arrived during this road trip, but right now the Mets could use plenty of spring.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After snapping a seven-game losing streak the previous night, manager Carlos Mendoza\u2019s crew reverted to listless form in Sunday\u2019s series rubber game against the Phillies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even usually reliable David Peterson was a mess in getting knocked out after four innings in the Mets\u2019 7-1 loss at Citizens Bank Park that completed their brutal trip.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a fourth inning from hell, Peterson surrendered two long home runs and buried the Mets in a five-run hole, forcing his team into trying to play catch up against lefty Jes\u00fas Luzardo. <\/p>\n<p>But the cavalry, which blasted seven solo homers Saturday, was nowhere to be found.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>David Peterson reacts during the Mets-Phillies game on June 22, 2025. Jason Szenes \/ New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Their reward is a return to Queens for a rematch against the Braves, who swept them last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In his worst start of the season, Peterson allowed five earned runs on six hits and three walks over four innings with four strikeouts. <\/p>\n<p>The start was not only Peterson\u2019s shortest, but his runs allowed were a season high.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It completed a turn through the rotation in which Mets starters pitched to a 6.55 ERA. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also not the same rotation that carried the Mets for the first 2 \u00bd months of the season, as Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill sit on the injured list.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Peterson got jumped for five runs in the fourth, when he faced 10 batters, burying the Mets in a 5-0 hole. <\/p>\n<p>Kyle Schwarber hits a home run during the Phillies-Mets game on June 22, 2025.  Jason Szenes \/ New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Kyle Schwarber launched a homer to center leading off the inning and Otto Kemp\u2019s RBI single after Nick Castellanos had doubled and J.T. Realmuto walked gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Edmundo Sosa crushed a slider for a three-run homer. <\/p>\n<p>It marked the first time Peterson surrendered multiple homers in a game since his first start of the season, on March 31 in Miami. <\/p>\n<p>Juan Soto reacts during the Mets-Phillies game on June 22, 2025.
