PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Changes are being seen after Arizona decided to no longer recognize Cesar Chavez Day due to sexual misconduct allegations<\/a> against the labor rights icon.<\/p>\n

Several cities renamed the holiday after the allegations surfaced earlier this month, while the state is making legislative changes. <\/p>\n

The cities of Phoenix and San Luis<\/a> renamed the day Farmworkers Day. <\/p>\n

Tempe renamed it Women Farmworkers Day<\/a>. Tucson now recognizes Dolores Huerta Day on March 30 and no longer recognizes Cesar Chavez Day.<\/p>\n

Phoenix Union High School District voted to temporarily rename Cesar Chavez High School<\/a> to Champions Circle High School, a move expected to cost the district millions of dollars.<\/p>\n

The Phoenix City Council voted last week to remove Chavez\u2019s name<\/a> from street signs, facilities, a plaza, parks and community centers. The council will report back in 30 days on the progress made in removing Chavez\u2019s name across the city. <\/p>\n

A group of lawmakers sent a bill repealing the statewide recognition of Cesar Chavez to the governor\u2019s desk. A governor\u2019s office spokesperson said Gov. Katie Hobbs plans to sign the bill. The spokesperson also said the state is looking into ways to recognize farmworkers.<\/p>\n
