The announcement came after a unanimous vote by the 32 NFL team owners at a meeting Tuesday. The City of Orlando, Orange County, and Florida Citrus Sports were all part of the team working to get the Jaguars to play in The City Beautiful. The hundreds of millions in tourism tax dollars being used to renovate Camping World Stadium was given credit for helping make it happen. As was Orlando’s track record of hosting major events. “…This opportunity is because of how aggressive this town has been to attract major sports and entertainment, and we continue to win,” said Steve Hogan, CEO of Florida Citrus Sports. Fans outside City Hall for the announcement said Orlando was a perfect pick. “As far as tourism goes, we’re right there in it,” said Nick Briggs, who lives in Orlando. “And then to bring the Jags in, it creates just an explosion of just entertainment, fun. I think Orlando was the absolute best place they could have gone. I am so excited.”For longtime Jags season ticket holders living in Orlando, they’re looking forward to the shorter game day commute. “We’ve been season ticket holders since he’s been one-year-old,” Phillip Wilkes said of his son Chad. “So we’ve been going to Jacksonville for thirteen years now, and now we’re fifteen minutes away from the stadium, which is totally awesome.”The CEO of Florida Citrus Sports said the games are a chance to prove Orlando could deserve its own franchise someday. And could help attract other major events. They’re hoping to see those refreshed Camping World seats filled. “You’ll be lucky to get a seat,” Briggs said. “I think we are gonna be hitting that refresh button online for tickets every single week,” he said. And whether they’re Jags fans or otherwise, “There’s going to be a butt in a seat watching that game, and it’s going to be loud,” Briggs said.
