(WIBW) &#8211; Author W. Bruce Cameron visited Christ the King Catholic school Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cameron, known for his novels like \u2018A Dog\u2019s Purpose\u2019, explains that his Kansas ties brought him back to the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI grew up in Johnson County, Kansas and so Topeka, the capital, I\u2019ve actually never managed to make it here,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I was so excited to have an invitation to come speak to these schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cameron spoke with students about reading.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI love the idea that my books are accessible to all ages and it helps kids get into reading which is really important to me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think it\u2019s so awesome that they\u2019re going to be able to meet someone who really used his talents to become such an amazing writer,\u201d Christ the King librarian Beth Pardo said. \u201cWhat an inspiration to our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cameron also answered their questions on becoming a writer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m writing a book myself and I would like to ask him a couple questions about just really when you\u2019re writing a book how do you get past the stuff you can\u2019t think of anything, how do you get past that?\u201d student Averee Abbl said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201c\u201cWe have great students and it\u2019s a great opportunity,\u201d student Caitlyn Bea said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cameron says writing stories can never be dehumanized. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cEverybody\u2019s saying the new technology is going to take over I don\u2019t think it can replace us, the people who make up stories,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s just too much a part of our culture.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cameron\u2019s new book \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbrucecameron.com\/post\/zeus-water-rescue\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wbrucecameron.com\/post\/zeus-water-rescue\">Zeus Water Rescue: Dogs with a Purpose<\/a>\u2019 is currently nominated for a William Allen White Award, voted on by children in Kansas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WIBW.
