But Woods appears to have taken his name out of the running following his DUI arrest last Friday.

Following the rollover two-car crash near his home in Jupiter Island, Fla. Woods announced his intention to step away from the game to focus on his health. During this time, we are keeping Tiger in our thoughts and prayers, with sincere hope for his strength, comfort, and recovery.

“Tiger has meant so much to our Association and to the game of golf. Since his Ryder Cup debut in 1997, he has been an enduring part of the PGA of America family. His connection to our PGA of America Golf Professionals, and his lasting impact on the sport, have inspired generations and profoundly shaped the game.

“We commend Tiger for prioritizing his long-term health and deeply respect the courage it takes to make such a personal decision.

“Tiger has shared with us that he will not serve as Captain of the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup Team and we support his decision. The PGA of America will share further updates regarding the Ryder Cup Captaincy when appropriate.”

Woods is an eight-time member of the United States team, last competing in a playing capacity at Le Golf National in France in 2018. He has been on the winning side only once, however, at Brookline in 1999. Of his 37 matches he has won 13, lost 21 and tied four times. He was a non-playing vice-captain in 2016 when the U.S. retained the Cup at Hazeltine.

The PGA of America also offered him the captaincy in 2025 for Bethpage, but Woods eventually declined and it went to Keegan Bradley.

Tiger Woods will not be the United States’ Ryder Cup captain in 2027.
