{"id":70034,"date":"2025-07-17T13:53:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/70034\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T13:53:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:53:09","slug":"concerns-grow-over-najee-harris-after-update-from-fireworks-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/70034\/","title":{"rendered":"Concerns grow over Najee Harris after update from fireworks incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been two weeks since <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/10\/sports\/najee-harris-suffered-eye-injury-at-fourth-of-july-fireworks-mishap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Najee Harris injured his eye in a Fourth of July fireworks accident<\/a>, and fans are still searching for clarity on just how serious the situation might be.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Chargers running back will likely start training camp on the team\u2019s non-football injury\/illness list, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chargers.com\/news\/najee-harris-eye-rashawn-slater-contract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general manager Joe Hortiz told reporters Wednesday<\/a>, adding that he expects a potential stint on the NFI list to be a quick one.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing is set in stone,\u201d Hortiz said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Veterans reported to Chargers training camp Wednesday morning, but Harris had remained in the Bay Area at Stanford, where he has been working with doctors since the fireworks mishap.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36562318\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/newspress-collage-flyd36kdl-1752753606778.jpg\" alt=\"An image collage containing 1 images, Image 1 shows Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris (#22) catching a football during an offseason workout\" class=\"wp-image-36562318\"  \/>Najee Harris suffered an eye injury in a fireworks incident on the Fourth of July.<\/p>\n<p>Hortiz said Harris was slated to report to the Chargers\u2019 facility Wednesday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Harris ends up on the NFI list and isn\u2019t cleared when the 53-man roster is set at the end of training camp, he\u2019ll have to miss at least the first four games of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Multiple people were injured in the incident, which took place in Antioch, Calif., and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/45756951\/chargers-najee-harris-eye-likely-start-camp-nfi-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a friend of Harris\u2019 lost fingers<\/a>, according to ESPN.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RapSheet\/status\/1943440552222990782\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a statement on July 10<\/a>, Harris\u2019 agent, Doug Hendrickson, shared the running back\u2019s injury was \u201csuperficial\u201d and that he is \u201cfully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hortiz added that Harris is in \u201cgood spirits\u201d and that \u201ceverything that has been relayed to us has been positive\u201d with the injury.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36562283\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/najee-harris-22-pittsburgh-steelers-17663473.jpg\" alt=\"Najee Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers.\" class=\"wp-image-36562283\"  \/>Najee Harris starred with the Steelers for four seasons before signing with the Chargers. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSurface-level injury, obviously around the eye, so I\u2019m sure there\u2019s bruising and all that. But we haven\u2019t seen him,\u201d Hortiz said. \u201cWe\u2019ll get more clarity when he gets here and our doctors see him, but we\u2019re in communication with the doctors there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The update elicited a skeptical response from some in the NFL world on social media, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ProFootballTalk\/status\/1945591106478965114\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post on X from Pro Football Talk<\/a> that read: \u201cEverything about the Najee Harris eye injury has been strange. Everything. I hope he fully recovers and plays this season.
