An investigation was underway Thursday into the death of an 88-year-old man who was run down by a hit-and-run driver in the South Park East neighborhood east of the Harbor (110) Freeway.<\/p>\n
The fatal crash was reported about 7:35 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Avalon Boulevard and 49th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.<\/p>\n
A vehicle described as a possibly black sedan headed north on Avalon hit the man as he walked in a marked crosswalk on the north side of East 49th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.<\/p>\n
The motorist did not stop.<\/p>\n
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
