The automaker did it with the GT Mk IV, recording a time of 6 minutes and 15.977 seconds, becoming the fastest American automaker around the iconic track. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The GT achieved its record-setting time as a track-only vehicle in the Prototype class, the same <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/767636\/c8-corvette-zr1x-nurburgring-onboard\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22767636%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22c8-corvette-zr1x-nurburgring-onboard%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">class the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X ran<\/a> when it set its record lap of 6 minutes and 49.275 seconds. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/ford\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22ford%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ford<\/a> is also now the fastest car powered exclusively by an internal combustion engine and the third-fastest overall. The Mk IV rides on a custom carbon-fiber Multimatic chassis with a longer wheelbase, a long-tail body, and enhanced aerodynamics that can generate more than 2,400 pounds of downforce at 150 miles per hour. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Powering the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/ford\/gt\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22ford%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22gt%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GT<\/a> is a bespoke twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter EcoBoost V6 engine producing more than 820 horsepower. The road-going GT has a smaller, 660-hp 3.5-liter unit. Each car costs around $1.7 million.
