A Fort Worth father is grieving the loss of his teenage son after bullets from a drive-by shooting riddled through their home early Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cLike a thousand pounds lying on my chest,” DFW Shaka said, “It\u2019s like something you\u2019ll never get over.”<\/p>\n
Prince Samar Washington was just 15 years old, who his father describes as respectful, focused, and full of promise.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot one of those kids who stay out late at night. One of those kids that wherever he goes, he’s gonna call me, let me know he’s there,\u201d DFW Shaka said.<\/p>\n
Fort Worth police say officers were called around 1:30 a.m. to the family\u2019s home on Glenbrook Lane in South Fort Worth after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found Prince inside the home, shot multiple times. First responders rushed him to a hospital, where Prince died just 30 minutes later.<\/p>\n
Investigators say someone fired dozens of rounds into the home from outside, sending bullets through walls and windows. Detectives marked bullet holes with evidence stickers outside the house, throughout the living room, and inside Prince\u2019s bedroom.<\/p>\n
His father described the moment the shooting unfolded.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was on the phone with his little girlfriend when the shooting went down, and then he walked out of the room bleeding, saying, Dad, I just got hit. And then collapsed on the floor,\u201d DFW Shaka said.<\/p>\n
Police say homicide detectives are canvassing the neighborhood, reviewing surveillance video, and following leads as they work to identify those responsible.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re asking anybody who has any information about what occurred, observed anything, or knows anything, but please reach out to assist us,\u201d Officer Brad Perez said.<\/p>\n
For Prince\u2019s father, the focus now is on remembering his son and seeking justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe didn\u2019t deserve that,\u201d DFW Shaka said.<\/p>\n
DFW Shaka is a Fort Worth resident and local blues performer known in the community for his passion for music and strong presence as a father. Friends and family describe DFW Shaka as devoted, grounded in faith, and committed to both his craft and his role as a parent.<\/p>\n
DFW Shaka says his son loved basketball and was simply being a kid when his life was cut short.<\/p>\n
\u201cPray that whoever did this gets justice.
