class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAsteroid, <a data-id=\"1236413147\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/05\/doug-liman-google-neil-parris-ai-cannes-1236413147\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which is due to launch on Google\u2019s Android XR platform later this year<\/a>, was among 69 works announced for <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/venice-immersive\/\" id=\"auto-tag_venice-immersive\" data-tag=\"venice-immersive\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venice Immersive<\/a> on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tProduced by Liman\u2019s 30 Ninjas Production, in association with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/google\/\" id=\"auto-tag_google\" data-tag=\"google\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/100-zeros\/\" id=\"auto-tag_100-zeros\" data-tag=\"100-zeros\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">100 Zeros<\/a>, a content initiative in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/range-media-partners\/\" id=\"auto-tag_range-media-partners\" data-tag=\"range-media-partners\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Range Media Partners<\/a>, the immersive short follows a group of strangers who risk it all by taking an old rocket to mine a near-earth asteroid for a chance at unimaginable wealth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCreators alongside Liman are Julina Tatlock and Jed Weintrob, who also take producer credits with Marty Schulman, Neil Parris and Jon Zepp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLaunched in 2017, Venice Immersive is dedicated to the immersive arts and media and includes all forms of creative XR expression including immersive videos, virtual and mixed reality, virtual worlds and immersive installations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAsteroid will be among 30 works making their world or international premieres in the Venice Immersive Competition, which metes out Grand Jury, Special Jury and Achievement awards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThis year\u2019s jury will be presided over by U.S. writer and director Eliza McNitt, whose credits include the Emmy-nominated, Darren Aronofsky-produced VR Spheres, starring Millie Bobby Brown, Jessica Chastain and Patti Smith.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tShe will be joined by 2024 Venice Immersive winners: French Luxembourgish director and producer Gwenael Fran\u00e7ois, whose VR work Oto\u2019s Planet won the Special Jury Prize, and French director Boris Labb\u00e9, whose Ito Meiky\u016b won the Grand Prize. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFurther Venice Immersive Competition titles include Face Jumping, by Danny Cannizzaro and Samantha Gorman, co-founders of games studio Tender Claws which previously made waves with Stranger Things VR (2024)\u00a0and\u00a0Virtual Virtual Reality (2017).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe interactive, eye-tracked VR experience \u2013 which enables players to swap perspectives by making eye contact with characters, animals, and objects \u2013 premiered in SXSW earlier this year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe competition also features Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel\u2019s The Exploding Girl VR, which previously competed in Cannes\u2019 immersive program in May, and UK work The Time Before by Leo Metcalf and Michael Golembewski, probing the mechanics of childhood memory, which debuted in the UK\u2019s Raindance festival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe entire selection will be showcased from August 27 to September 6 on the Venice Immersive Island, situated on the island of Lazzaretto Vecchio, just a three-minute vaporetto ride from festival\u2019s main Lido di Venezia hub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAnother 34 projects will also play Out of Competition under the Best of Experiences and Best of Worlds banners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBest of Experiences showcases 11 works that have been making waves since the last edition of the Venice Immersive. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThey include Submerged, the first scripted short film captured in Apple Immersive Video, written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Edward Berger, and Chlo\u00e9 Rochereuil\u2019s D-Day: The Camera Soldier, an interactive documentary delves exploring the untold story of a World War II D-Day combat cameraman, the late Richard Taylor.<\/p>\n<p
