Fluid pills, heart pills and blood pressure medications are some of the prime examples.

“In the heat, you tend to get dehydrated anyway. So if you’re on a fluid medication to relieve fluid off of your body, you might watch out for that,” Davis said.

The symptoms of heat sensitivity with medications are similar to heat exhaustion, and Davis says the solution is similar for both.

“Try to limit the amount of time you’re outside; do it in the morning or the evening in the cooler times of day. Stay hydrated the best you can,” Davis said.

In addition to staying out of the sun yourself, Davis also said you shouldn’t be leaving your medications in hot places.

Leaving them in the car or any space with low ventilation can be extremely bad for the medication.

“If your medication is stored anywhere or if you left anywhere where it is going to soar above 77 degrees, you run the risk of that medication becoming compromised and breaking down and not working properly,” Davis explained.

He also encourages everyone to check the labels on their medications and to stay hydrated during the heat.

Copyright 2025 KTRE.
