HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 Houston police have released new details on the officer-involved shooting that left a man armed with a butcher knife dead in Southwest Houston.<\/p>\n

According to a news release by the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 6300 block of West Bellfort Avenue.<\/p>\n

O<\/b>UR FIRST REPORT: <\/b>Houston police officer shoots man armed with butcher knife near SW Houston apartment complex<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Officers responded to a call regarding a man in crisis. <\/p>\n

When they arrived, they spoke with a woman who said her husband was inside their upstairs apartment, and he was armed with a knife. <\/p>\n

She told officers he was making suicidal threats as well as threats toward police.<\/p>\n

Authorities said officers then went upstairs and attempted to make contact with the man. He allegedly stood near the apartment doorway holding a knife. <\/p>\n

Officers reportedly made verbal commands to drop the weapon, police said the man refused and began advancing toward officers.<\/p>\n

At that point, three officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.<\/p>\n

Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.<\/p>\n

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.<\/p>\n

The officers involved were not injured. All three are assigned to HPD\u2019s South Gessner Patrol Division. <\/p>\n

As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings within city limits, the case is being reviewed by multiple departments within HPD and the Harris County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
