A pursuit that started around 5:15 p.m. in the Ventura area as a traffic violation was handed over to the California Highway Patrol when the driver crossed into Los Angeles County on Highway 101.<\/p>\n
Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Zapata said that deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle near Victoria Avenue and Olivas Parkway, and the driver failed to yield and ultimately hopped onto the 101.<\/p>\n
A pursuit ensued and reached speeds of 75 to 80 mph, Zapata said around 6:15 p.m. The chase sped along Highway 101 and continued into Los Angeles County where the CHP picked up the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Other media reports mentioned other potential crimes, but Zapata said deputies only tried to pull over the driver for the traffic violation. The driver also now faces a potential charge for resisting or delaying an officer.<\/p>\n
The sheriff’s captain said he was not aware of any other possible warrants for the driver outside Ventura County.<\/p>\n
By around 6:30 p.m., the driver had transitioned to the 210 Freeway and into San Bernardino County. Around 7 p.m., the vehicle headed north onto the 215 Freeway and eventually onto the 15 Freeway, according to a live broadcast of the pursuit.<\/p>\n
CHP appeared to have deployed multiple spike strips along the journey although most did not affect the vehicle.<\/p>\n
