TxDOT plans to crack down on speeders."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With speed-related crashes killing nearly 1,500 people in Texas last year, a statewide crackdown on speeding begins Friday, bringing increased enforcement to roads across San Antonio and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>From July 18 through Aug. 3, the Texas Department of Transportation\u2019s Operation Slowdown campaign will boost speed limit enforcement in partnership with law enforcement agencies across the state. The two-week effort is part of TxDOT\u2019s broader initiative to address speeding \u2014 the leading cause of traffic crashes in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, nearly 160,000 speed-related crashes occurred statewide, resulting in 1,467 deaths and 5,921 serious injuries, according to TxDOT. That year, in the San Antonio area, there were 10,703 speed-related crashes, leading to 123 deaths and 424 serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers can expect to see increased law enforcement presence on roads, especially targeting those exceeding posted speed limits or failing to slow down for road, weather or traffic conditions.<\/p>\n<p>TxDOT encourages motorists to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Match speed to road and weather conditions<\/li>\n<li>Leave more distance to stop in heavy traffic or construction zones<\/li>\n<li>Watch for posted speed reductions<\/li>\n<li>Remember that fines double in active school or work zones<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cSpeeding is not an accident \u2014 it\u2019s a choice, and it can be a deadly one.
