SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) \u2014 Health care for veterans in San Antonio appears to be getting a boost.<\/p>\n

The proposed city budget for 2027 includes $30 million to buy land for a new veterans medical center in the Alamo City.<\/p>\n

KSAT-12 reports the proposal comes a month after Mayor Gina Jones and Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs requesting support for the new Veterans Affairs center.<\/p>\n

Jones has offered several factors that drive her push for a new facility that would replace the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital. These include 64% of those enrolled in veteran health care in the region being under 64 years old. That number is reportedly higher than the national average.<\/p>\n

Also under consideration for the new facility is the number of female veterans getting healthcare in South Texas, which is on the rise.<\/p>\n

There is no specific timeline for the land purchase or the beginning of construction of the new facility.<\/p>\n
