HOUSTON, Texas — The Art Car Parade is one of Houston’s most unique events, celebrating art and creativity.<\/p>\n

Students at Westbury High School have been working on their art car since October 2025. They have been modifying a 2009 Subaru Forester that was gifted to the school by Team Gillman.<\/p>\n

The title of their art car: Renaissance on Wheels.<\/p>\n

The students have been creating sculptures based on Renaissance paintings, including Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Michelangelo’s Piet\u00e0.<\/p>\n

The project is led by art teacher Wendy Bejarano, “Learning how to build things and using your hands, and what materials to use is important for everyday life.”<\/p>\n

Students told us they primarily used beads, buttons, and pennies. “It was pretty tedious,” One art student remembered.<\/p>\n

Nearly 200 students took part in the project, and each had a role: “Some people did the papier-mache clouds, some people did the sculptures, and some people decorated the sculptures.”<\/p>\n

You can see “Renaissance on Wheels” on Saturday, April 11, at the Houston Art Car Parade<\/a><\/strong>, presented by Team Gillman<\/p>\n

The 39th annual parade will feature over 250 art cars and other entries from 23 states, in addition to international vehicles from Canada and Mexico.<\/p>\n
