TMZ founder Harvey Levin revealed Monday that after a period of inactivity, the digital news site received a new ransom note claiming to have impactful information on Nancy Guthrie\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n
The anonymous sender, who has previously reached out to Levin and TMZ \u201cincessantly,\u201d claimed to know who kidnapped the 84-year-old mother of \u201cToday\u201d co-host Savannah Guthrie along with her location.<\/p>\n
And while Levin and TMZ executive producer and host Charles Latibeaudiere said in a social media video Monday that the FBI has never appeared to take action on the sender, they forwarded Monday\u2019s letter to investigators and hoped for the best. Levin said his \u201cspidey senses tell me that there\u2019s something about this guy\u201d and that he has a feeling the sender really \u201cknows something.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got another letter today from this person, an email saying, \u2018I know where her body is and who the kidnapper is. Give me half a Bitcoin and I\u2019ll tell you.\u2019 And this person has been really persistent, knowing that if it\u2019s a scam, it\u2019s a federal crime,\u201d Levin said at the top of the segment, embedded below.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight, but they also made the point that they wanted to make it clear that they had nothing to do with it, they\u2019ve been out of the country \u2014 who knows, and again, we forwarded to the FBI, as we have in the past,\u201d Latibeaudiere added. \u201cFor whatever reason, and this is the thing we haven\u2019t figured out, you have to assume that the law enforcement, they believe that this person is not legit. Otherwise, they would have advised Savannah to pay the money.\u201d<\/p>\n
Levin wasn\u2019t buying it, and he explained why.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll tell you what, my spidey senses tell me that there\u2019s something about this guy because one of the emails he sent said early on, \u2018Time is of the essence to do this,\u2019 and then the next day he said, \u2018Time is no longer of the essence,’\u201d the founder said. \u201cIf he was pulling a scam, why would you say time is no longer of the essence? You want to keep the value high. And the fact that he\u2019s said this made me think this guy knows something.\u201d<\/p>\n
Levin emphasized that he\u2019s \u201cnot FBI,\u201d but Latibeaudiere appeared to agree with the assessment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not privy to all the information they are,\u201d he said, \u201cbut from the outside looking in, it sure seems like this person knows something.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ransom letter was reportedly sent to TMZ Monday morning, the same day Savannah returned to anchor \u201cToday\u201d<\/a> two months after the\u00a0search for her missing mother<\/a> began.<\/p>\n The Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department and the FBI are both continuing to lead the Arizona investigation into Nancy\u2019s disappearance. Savannah has\u00a0offered\u00a0a $1 million reward<\/a>\u00a0in addition to the FBI\u2019s $100,000 reward for information that leads to her mother\u2019s recovery.<\/p>\n The sender of the TMZ ransom note reportedly demanded \u201chalf a Bitcoin\u201d to share the information they have on Nancy\u2019s whereabouts.
