{"id":71076,"date":"2025-07-17T22:50:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T22:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/71076\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T22:50:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T22:50:08","slug":"steve-miller-band-cancels-tour-cites-extreme-weather-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/71076\/","title":{"rendered":"Steve Miller Band cancels tour, cites extreme weather concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Classic rocker Steve Miller has canceled his U.S. tour because he said severe weather including extreme heat and unpredictable flooding poses a danger to his band, its fans and crew. <\/p>\n<p>The tour was set to kick off in August and run through early November, with nearly three dozen stops across the U.S. including cities in New York, Tennessee, Florida and California. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable,\u201d Miller, 81, said in a statement posted on the band\u2019s social media accounts Wednesday. \u201cYou can blame it on the weather. &#8230; The tour is cancelled.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Steve Miller Band, formed in California in the 1960s, has hits including \u201cThe Joker\u201d (1973) and \u201cAbracadabra\u201d (1982). <\/p>\n<p>A band spokesperson declined to provide additional details about the cancellation. <\/p>\n<p>Miller\u2019s decision comes as a stretch of extreme weather in the U.S. has made headlines. A <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/heat-dome-index-humidity-extreme-temperatures-e42735a682f43ab29ec3367472f19910\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sweltering heat dome<\/a> that baked much of the eastern half of the nation in June and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/texas-flooding-guadalupe-river-search-6537e610a0789eae05189d9bd3bd3fe2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deadly flash flooding in Texas<\/a> are some of the recent rounds of extreme weather.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists say climate change is fueling extreme weather, causing storms to unleash more rain and sending temperatures soaring to dangerous heights, making it harder to plan outdoor summer events. The atmosphere can hold higher amounts of moisture as it warms, resulting in <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/climate-change-extremes-drought-flood-rain-hydrological-cycle-b1f3e71ec6bac03f7c72a16be2739b01\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">storms dumping heavier amounts of rain<\/a> compared with storms of the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone wants to see their favorite artist, and that\u2019s still possible. You just have to best mitigate weather risks,\u201d said Jonathan Porter, chief meteorologist at AccuWeather, a private weather company. \u201cFor example, the doors may open an hour late in order to ensure thunderstorms have moved sufficiently away from the venue so the show can go on safely.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Music festivals have recently encountered extreme weather, resulting in cancellations or causing concertgoers to become ill. <\/p>\n<p>In June, the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee was canceled partway through due to heavy rainfall. Last week, hundreds of people were treated for heat-related illnesses at the Rock the Country music festival in Kentucky, according to local officials.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, tens of thousands of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/burning-man-festival-flooding-entrance-closed-d6cd88ee009c6e1f6d2d92739ec1ca18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Burning Man event attendees were stranded<\/a> after heavy rain created thick mud in the Nevada desert and roads were temporarily closed.<\/p>\n<p>A <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10584-020-02843-x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> published in 2020 reported climate change will increase the likelihood of extreme heat stress during the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coachella-2025-must-see-photos-benson-boone-lisa-f426f49be422ee91a060e61a7d383323\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival<\/a> in California. <\/p>\n<p>Tropical storms and hurricanes will soon contribute to the turbulent weather as activity peaks between August and October, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. <\/p>\n<p>___<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press\u2019 climate and environmental coverage receives financial support from multiple private foundations.
