PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – The state of New York is taking aim at potholes that continue to wreak havoc on vehicles, leaving some residents with big repair bills.<\/p>\n
Regina Sinta Rein, a Plattsburgh resident, has noticed more of the road craters this spring.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think there\u2019s a quite a bit of potholes that people have to avoid or else their car can be damaged,\u201d Rein said.<\/p>\n
David Witkowski, a Plattsburgh resident, said the potholes are worse this year compared to last year.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, I don\u2019t think the city, the town or the state can keep up with them,\u201d Witkowski said.<\/p>\n
Gov. Kathy Hochul said New York is going to try, as the state\u2019s Department of Transportation gets ready to patch up nearly 200,000 of them.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to turn potholes into not holes,\u201d said Hochul, D-New York.<\/p>\n
That includes in Malone, where crews will fix the road damage on Route 11 before their repaving project next year.<\/p>\n
\u201cPotholes are everywhere, not just on Route 11 but on all side streets, all roads. Potholes need to be fixed throughout our community,\u201d said Mayor Andrea Dumas, R-Malone.<\/p>\n
Hochul said more than $800 million will be allotted to pay for the road repairs.<\/p>\n
