CBS is axing \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert\u201d in May 2026, the host told an audience at a taping Thursday.<\/p>\n
The announcement came two days after Colbert\u00a0spoke out\u00a0against CBS Global\u00a0settling with President Donald Trump\u00a0over a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d story.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am offended,\u201d Colbert said in his monologue Monday night. \u201cI don\u2019t know if anything \u2014 anything \u2014 will repair my trust in this company. But, just taking a stab at it, I\u2019d say $16 million would help.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the technical name in legal circles for the deal was \u201cbig fat bribe.\u201d<\/p>\n
The news of the show being canceled was also announced in a press release sent from CBS with a link to a clip of Colbert\u2019s announcement on Instagram.<\/p>\n
The comedian and TV personality began by telling the audience he was sharing something he learned the night before, that \u201cNext year will be our last season. The network will be ending the Late Show in May\u2026 it\u2019s the end of the Late Show on CBS. I\u2019m not being replaced. This is all just going away.\u201d<\/p>\n
The most recent ratings from Nielsen show Colbert as winning his timeslot, with about 2.417 million viewers across 41 new episodes. It also said his late night show was the only one to gain viewers so far this year.<\/p>\n
