{"id":71507,"date":"2025-07-18T02:36:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T02:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/71507\/"},"modified":"2025-07-18T02:36:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T02:36:09","slug":"espn-unbothered-by-shane-gillis-polarizing-espys-monologue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/71507\/","title":{"rendered":"ESPN unbothered by Shane Gillis&#8217; polarizing ESPYs monologue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shane Gillis\u2019 monologue at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night has left plenty of people divided over the contents of the jokes, but the Disney-owned sports network isn\u2019t concerned about the reaction that Gillis\u2019 routine received, The Post has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>During his roughly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/16\/sports\/shane-gillis-savage-espys-monologue-took-aim-at-everyone\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10-minute opening<\/a>, Gillis poked fun at just about everyone from popular sports figures to President Donald Trump in a biting opening sequence to kick off the annual sports award show.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Worldwide Leader always knew Gillis\u2019 comedic stylings weren\u2019t going to be for everyone, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2025\/07\/17\/espn-reaction-shane-gillis-espys-monologue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">TMZ first reported<\/a>, but there were no worries about the \u201cTires\u201d star who has worked with the network on its \u201cCollege GameDay\u201d show.<\/p>\n<p>Host Shane Gillis speaks at the ESPY Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Wednesday, July 16, 2025.  AP<\/p>\n<p>ESPN declined comment when reached by The Post. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among the topics that Gillis touched upon were Trump, Caitlin Clark, Aaron Rodgers and Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>The well-known comedian received mixed reactions during his <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/16\/sports\/shane-gillis-espys-monologue-completely-divided-internet\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eyebrow-raising opening remarks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gillis asserted that women\u2019s soccer legend Megan Rapinoe was not a \u201cgood time\u201d in one of his first quips of the night and later joked that he and Clark, the WNBA superstar, had a lot in common because they were both \u201cwhites from the Midwest who have nailed a bunch of 3s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Host Shane Gillis, top right, speaks at the ESPY Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
