Elmo\u2018s everlasting mission of kindness and all things wholesome is back in full swing, days after the puppet\u2019s official X account platformed racist and antisemitic remarks, and popular claims about the sex-trafficking investigation of Jeffrey Epstein. <\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for being kind to Elmo and all the people in your neighborhood,\u201d the iconic \u201cSesame Street\u201d furball tweeted<\/a> Tuesday. \u201cElmo loves you.\u201d <\/p>\n Earlier this week, the permanently 3\u00bd-year-old mascot shocked followers when he posted numerous hateful tweets<\/a>, including those threatening violence against the Jewish community and others demanding that President Trump release Epstein\u2019s purported \u201cclient list.\u201d<\/a> In the series of since-deleted posts, Elmo dubbed Trump a \u201cpuppet\u201d for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and alleged the president was involved in Epstein\u2019s sex-trafficking operation. <\/p>\n The tweets, obviously out of line with Elmo\u2019s regular playful<\/a> programming on social media, naturally went viral as users circulated screenshots of the disturbing posts. \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d and host Jon Stewart also had their fun with Elmo\u2019s uncharacteristic tweets, creating a segment<\/a> that generated more out-of-pocket takes for the normally innocuous puppet.<\/p>\n Amid the online buzz, the \u201cSesame Street\u201d organization Sesame Workshop alleged in a statement that Elmo\u2019s X account was \u201ccompromised by an unknown hacker\u201d and condemned the \u201cdisgusting messages.\u201d<\/p>\n A spokesperson for X told The Times that it could not comment \u201con the specifics of individual accounts,\u201d adding that it encourages all users to \u201cleverage the security methods\u201d outlined in its help center page<\/a>. <\/p>\n While X did not confirm the takeover of Elmo\u2019s account, the alleged hacker left a link \u2014 that has since been deleted \u2014 on the character\u2019s page directing followers to a user\u2019s Telegram channel. On Telegram, the user appears to take credit for the hack and also shared a message praising Adolf Hitler and Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West. <\/p>\n
