{"id":719530,"date":"2026-04-11T02:54:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T02:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/719530\/"},"modified":"2026-04-11T02:54:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T02:54:13","slug":"san-antonio-police-union-pauses-contract-talks-after-slap-in-the-face-pay-offer-from-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/719530\/","title":{"rendered":"San Antonio police union pauses contract talks after \u2018slap in the face\u2019 pay offer from city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 The president of the San Antonio Police Officers Association (SAPOA) said his union is backing away from the negotiating table after a pay offer he described as a \u201cslap in the face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The union and City of San Antonio have been negotiating a new contract since late January. Both sides have proposed combinations of hourly-rate and percentage-based raises, meaning different ranks would be affected differently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The city presented an offer today that would raise the base wages for the lowest-ranking San Antonio police officers from $65,431 currently to $74,970 in April 2029 \u2014 a more than 14% bump in pay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">However, the union has proposed raising the same officers\u2019 pay to $82,164 in the same time frame \u2014 a more than 25% increase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In an emailed statement after the negotiation session, SAPOA President Danny Diaz said the city\u2019s counteroffer \u201cdevalues our officers and the dangerous work they do every day,\u201d and the union was \u201cpausing further discussions at this time.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In a follow-up phone interview, Diaz told KSAT that officers have been quick to let the union know how they felt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cOur phones have not been quiet,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019ve been ringing off the wall.
