{"id":719606,"date":"2026-04-11T03:37:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T03:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/719606\/"},"modified":"2026-04-11T03:37:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T03:37:14","slug":"canines-found-washed-ashore-on-guemes-island-were-foxes-from-a-farm-outside-wa-kiro-7-news-seattle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/719606\/","title":{"rendered":"Canines found washed ashore on Guemes Island were foxes from a farm outside WA \u2013 KIRO 7 News Seattle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">SKAGIT COUNTY  \u2014 The Skagit County Sheriff\u2019s Office has answered a few questions about the 20+ dog carcasses that were found washed ashore on Guemes Island. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">According to the sheriff\u2019s office, they \u201ccontacted the responsible party associated with the recent animal-related incident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">Based on information at this stage in the investigation, the carcasses were determined to be foxes from a farm outside the state of Washington.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">The sheriff\u2019s office said that they were \u201clawfully purchased\u201d and transported to the state for use in commercial fishing. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">The sheriff\u2019s office told KIRO 7 in a phone call that the foxes can be used as bait for crabbing. It appears that the boat had some kind of mechanical issues, they told us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">They also told KIRO that it appears the operator tossed the foxes to lighten the load when the boat was taking on water. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">\u201cGiven the facts and circumstances currently known, the Sheriff\u2019s Office does not anticipate referring any charges to the Prosecutor\u2019s Office,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office wrote on Facebook. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">The investigation is active and ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>What happened <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gdrPeS body-paragraph\">On March 26, deputies responded to a call about several canines that were found washed up.
