Jimmy Kimmel <\/a>didn\u2019t mince words in reacting to CBS\u2019s surprise announcement that it will cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert at the end of the 2025\u201326 season<\/a>\u2014and retire the franchise entirely.<\/p>\n Shortly after the news broke Thursday evening, Kimmel posted an Instagram Reel with a simple, two-part message: The post\u2014simultaneously heartfelt and sharply barbed\u2014was a show of solidarity from one late-night host to another. Though Kimmel and Colbert compete nightly for viewers, the two have long shared a mutual respect and genuine friendship.<\/p>\n Colbert himself addressed the news in a taped message for Thursday night\u2019s Late Show<\/a>, telling viewers, \u201cNext year will be our last season. The network will be ending The Late Show in May,\u201d and emphasizing, \u201cI\u2019m not being replaced.
