Three men who led police on a chase in Sydney’s west were in a stolen car that had allegedly been used in multiple public place shootings.<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Brad Abdy from Strike Force Raptor, set up to combat organised crime, said officers had been searching for the white Audi, which they believe was stolen on March 9 from Edmondson Park.<\/p>\n

“So it’s obviously been with criminals since that date, and we’ve identified it as being involved in a number of shootings,”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Inspector Abdy said.<\/p>\n

“Inquiries by Raptor squad identified that that vehicle is believed to be involved in several public place shooting incidents that have occurred in south-western Sydney between the 14th of March and the seventh of April this year.<\/p>\n

“Those incidents are a public place shooting on the 14th of March at a Panania address, on 16th of March there was a fire bombing also at a Panania address, where a firearm was produced but not discharged.<\/p>\n

“We believe the vehicle was also linked to three other shooting offences that occurred on the same night in St Johns Park, Colyton, and again, at the same Panania address.”<\/p>\n

A search of the car allegedly revealed two firearms \u2014 a long-arm rifle and a pistol.<\/p>\n

The men and the stolen car came to the attention of police about 2pm today after Wentworthville locals notified police that a group of men were parked outside the leagues club in the Audi wearing balaclavas.<\/p>\n

Police said they were not sure what the men were doing in the area.<\/p>\n

Soon after, the car was spotted on the Great Western Highway, where officers tried to stop it, but a pursuit unfolded through a number of suburbs.<\/p>\n

During the chase, police said the offenders were seen throwing fuel jerry cans and bleach containers from the car.<\/p>\n

Inspector Abdy said the chase ended when the car crashed into a number of police cars on the Hills Road exit on the M4 motorway.<\/p>\n

“Three men ran from the car and were chased by police; they were subsequently arrested nearby, with the assistance of the police air wing and the police dog unit,” Inspector Abdy said.<\/p>\n

Footage obtained by the ABC shows one of the men being detained by several police officers underneath the motorway where the stolen Audi had been stopped.<\/p>\n

The three men aged 28, 24 and 25 from Maroruba, Shelby and Willmot, respectively, are known to police.<\/p>\n

They are assisting with the ongoing investigation and have yet to be charged.<\/p>\n
