Downtown\u2019s bar scene is about to get a tropical twist thanks to the founders of Be Kind & Rewind. <\/p>\n

The minds behind the nostalgic pop culture-themed drinkery will launch their second bar \u2014 tiki spot Paradise Unknown \u2014\u00a0on Friday, April 16, at 238 Losoya St.\u00a0And, yes, that\u2019s also the first day of Fiesta.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement, concept creator and co-owner Alex Amaro said Paradise Unknown will have the same sense of immersive \u201cescapism\u201d Be Kind & Rewind is known for, albeit with a distinct tropical theme. Photos shared of Paradise Unknown show it bathed in eye-catching red and yellow lights and awash in kitschy nautical decor from the Trader Vic\u2019s era.<\/p>\n

The owners haven\u2019t released the drink menu yet, but the food will be supplied by chef Jaime Gonzalez of the Wok Wey mobile kitchen, a fixture of nearby El Camino Food Truck Park & Bar. That means guests can expect bar\u00a0bites in Gonzalez\u2019s signature style \u2014 Mexican-Chinese fusion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to create a space where people can walk in from the middle of downtown and feel like they\u2019ve been transported somewhere completely different and a little bit mysterious,\u201d Amaro said in the statement. \u201cSomewhere between the music, the cocktails and the glow of a hidden world, guests might find themselves wondering how they got there and why they don\u2019t want to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amaro launched Be Kind & Rewind in 2022 with co-owners Davis Phillips and David Strainge. The bar was an instant hit, drawing in crowds eager to indulge in \u201980s, \u201990s and early 2010s nostalgia. <\/p>\n

Featuring two levels, a dance floor, pinball machine and a full menu of themed drinks, Be Kind & Rewind eagerly threw people back to the pre-iPhone days and hasn\u2019t looked back.\u00a0Unless, of course, you count its new counterpart\u2019s backward glance at the tiki era of the \u201940s through the mid-\u201960s. <\/p>\n
