\n\tSTART SPREADING THE NEWS:\u00a0<\/strong>Chanel<\/a>\u00a0is returning to the New York runway for the first time in seven years.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe French fashion house will present its first M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art collection designed by\u00a0Matthieu Blazy<\/a>\u00a0on Dec. 2, it said on Thursday. The exact location will be disclosed at a later date.\u00a0Chanel<\/a>\u00a0underlined its historic links with the U.S., dating back to founder Gabrielle \u201cCoco\u201d Chanel\u2019s first trips across the Atlantic in the 1930s.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am delighted that\u00a0Matthieu Blazy<\/a>\u00a0has chosen New York for his first M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art show,\u201d\u00a0Bruno Pavlovsky<\/a>, president of fashion and president of Chanel SAS, said in a statement. \u201cHe will make the creative energy of the city he knows so well resonate with the exceptional savoir-faire of the house.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom 2016 to 2019, Blazy was part of the Calvin Klein team that Raf Simons brought to New York, working on the men\u2019s and women\u2019s collections as design director.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe will make\u00a0his official debut<\/a>\u00a0for Chanel during the spring ready-to-wear shows in Paris in October, marking the end of an unusually long handover period following the departure last year of Virginie Viard.<\/p>\n

\n\tFormer creative director Karl Lagerfeld staged the \u201cParis-New York\u201d M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a> in December 2018, two months before his death. Shown in front of the Temple of Dendur, the collection\u00a0drew inspiration from Ancient Egypt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was Karl\u2019s last show, so we always get a little nostalgic when we talk about it in-house. But going back to New York with Matthieu and the beginning of a new season is super exciting,\u201d Pavlovsky told WWD.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe\u2019s very enthusiastic about showing in New York. It\u2019s a city he knows well, where he\u2019s lived and worked,\u201d the executive added. \u201cNew York is always a bold choice, because it\u2019s one of the most important cities for us in terms of image and business. Following Matthieu to New York will be full of surprises for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn tandem with the announcement, Chanel released the first visual teaser of Blazy\u2019s tenure: a vintage New York subway map with a double-C logo superimposed.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe brand has presented the M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art line, timed around the pre-fall season, in cities as far-flung as Tokyo; New York; Rome; Edinburgh, Scotland; Salzburg, Austria, and Dallas. For the last three editions, it explored cities off the beaten luxury track with shows in\u00a0Hangzhou, China<\/a>; Manchester, England; and Dakar, Senegal.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art collections celebrate the capabilities of the specialty ateliers Chanel has acquired through its Paraffection subsidiary. Several of them are now grouped at Le19M, a striking building designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti and located near Porte d\u2019Aubervilliers, a working-class area north of Paris.<\/p>\n

\n\tLe19M brings together embroiderer and tweed-maker Lesage, its embroidery school and Lesage Int\u00e9rieurs; embroidery workshop Montex and its decoration department MTX; shoemaker Massaro; feather- and flower-maker Lemari\u00e9; milliner Maison Michel; pleater Lognon; grand flou atelier Paloma, and goldsmith Goossens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"START SPREADING THE NEWS:\u00a0Chanel\u00a0is returning to the New York runway for the first time in seven years.
