F\u2013k you and all your Sheldons CBS,\u201d Kimmel wrote on his personal Instagram story Thursday, appearing to reference CBS\u2019s hit \u201cThe Big Bang Theory\u201d spinoff, \u201cYoung Sheldon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d host\u2019s outburst comes as the network announced its plan to cancel \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/tag\/late-show-with-stephen-colbert\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a>\u201d in May 2026, citing \u201cpurely a financial decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy Kimmel called out CBS for announcing that they are ending his friend, Stephen Colbert\u2019s, show on Thursday. Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The network said it considered the 61-year-old late-night host \u201cirreplaceable\u201d and that \u201cthe broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late-night television.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The decision marks the end of CBS\u2019s historic late-night programming, which began when David Letterman left NBC in 1993 to host \u201cThe Late Show with David Letterman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2015\/05\/20\/why-letterman-was-ultimately-a-disappointment-to-gen-x\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Letterman left his iconic show in 2015<\/a>, and Colbert stepped in as host after gaining popularity on \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d and \u201cThe Colbert Report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Colbert \u2014 who said he was made aware of the news Wednesday evening \u2014 addressed the cancellation during the taping of Thursday\u2019s show at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore we start the show, I want to let you know something I found out just last night. Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending the \u2018Late Show\u2019 in May,\u201d he told the audience, who booed profusely over the news.<\/p>\n<p>Colbert addressed the cancellation during the taping of Thursday\u2019s show at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI share your feelings,\u201d Colbert replied.<\/p>\n<p>Colbert assured the audience he was not \u201cbeing replaced,\u201d but that the network was ending the \u201cLate Show\u201d franchise entirely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do want to say that the folks at CBS have been great partners. I\u2019m so grateful to the Tiffany Network for giving me this chair and this beautiful theater to call home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Colbert then reflected on his time as host and told the audience how \u201cgrateful\u201d he was for the fans who \u201cjoined us every night in here, out there, all around the world, Mr and Mrs. America and all the ships at sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Colbert assured the audience he was not \u201cbeing replaced,\u201d but that the network was ending the \u201cLate Show\u201d franchise entirely. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m grateful to share the stage with this band every night. I am extraordinarily deeply grateful to the 200 people who work here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe get to do this show for each other \u2014 every day, all day. And I\u2019ve had the pleasure and responsibility of sharing what we do every day with you in front of this camera for the last 10 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Colbert said he wishes \u201csomebody else\u201d were taking over instead of seeing the show end for good.<\/p>\n<p>He then concluded his statement by saying he\u2019s \u201clooking forward\u201d to putting on the show with the \u201cusual gang of idiots for another 10 months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CBS said that it is retiring \u201c\u2018The Late Show\u2019 franchise\u201d for good in May 2026. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be fun,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n<p>Kimmel and Colbert aren\u2019t just late-night TV peers, but good friends who share the same agent, James \u201cBabydoll\u201d Dixon, Kimmel revealed while appearing as a guest on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-Lp96hoSUC8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Colbert\u2019s show<\/a> in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The hosts also revealed that viewers and critics expected them to be enemies. Kimmel said he believes it stems from the historic <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2015\/01\/29\/are-david-letterman-and-jay-leno-reuniting-on-air\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">feud with their predecessors, Letterman and Jay Leno<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople want us to fight and everything like that,\u201d Kimmel said while appearing as a guest on Colbert\u2019s show in 2015. \u201cIt\u2019s weird.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kimmel on \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert\u201d on Oct. 16, 2015. I might even love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally?\u201d Colbert responded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you died, I\u2019d cry like a baby,\u201d Kimmel shared. \u201cGod forbid.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow.
