They are in a position where they can move off some players to create cap space and get additional draft capital. There is one player who could be traded away this offseason and one outlet projected a trade. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what the trade would look like.

The Chicago Bears may trade away tight end Cole Kmet this offseason
Nov 9, 2023; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet (85) runs after a catch against the Carolina Panthers during the third quarter at Soldier Field. Mandatory Credit: Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote an article discussing some major trades that still can happen this offseason. One trade has Chicago and the Baltimore Ravens making a deal centered around tight end Cole Kmet. The projected trade sees Kmet head to the Ravens in exchange for a conditional 2027 fourth-round pick. Below is the reasoning Knox had for this deal taking place:

“If the Ravens can’t land a receiver like [George] Pickens-or even if they do-they should have interest in Bears tight end Cole Kmet. Kmet has been productive throughout his Bears tenure, but he may not be viewed as expendable due to the emergence of rookie Colston Loveland in 2025….

“Kmet is a solid pass-catcher who has tallied 2,939 receiving yards in six seasons and who just turned 27 years old in March. Kmet also has experience under new Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Coyle, who held the same position last season in Chicago.”

This trade may happen after the 2026 NFL Draft as it gives some additional savings for Chicago. If Kmet is traded now, the Bears save $7.4 million of cap space, but if it happens after June 1, it would increase to $9 million. Chicago gets a conditional pick as well out of this, which could be a top-100 selection next year. It will be intriguing to see if this trade is able to happen this offseason.

Chicago Bears have a Dennis Allen issue for 2026 draft
Read More

For More Great Chicago Sports Content

Get the latest Chicago sports news, analysis, and breaking stories on the Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs, White Sox, Sky, and more!
