Her family says they want to see accountability.<\/p>\n<p>PHOENIX \u2014 Police in <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3Of6D3L\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Phoenix, Arizona<\/a>, are investigating a violent group assault that left a high school student unconscious and hospitalized after she was attacked near a light rail stop.<\/p>\n<p>The incident happened April 8 while the teen was on her way home from school.<\/p>\n<p>According to the victim and her family, the girl boarded the light rail after classes ended. During the ride, she said a group of teenage boys began harassing her, with one allegedly groping her.<\/p>\n<p>When she exited the train, the situation escalated.<\/p>\n<p>Video reviewed by the family and 12News shows the girl being pulled to the ground by her hair and dragged into the street, where she was repeatedly punched and kicked. The assault left her unconscious.<\/p>\n<p>She was taken to the hospital with cuts to her face and a neck injury that required a brace.<\/p>\n<p>Her mother, Lucero Orozco, described the moment she arrived at the scene as overwhelming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I got to the scene, I remember running, and I was feeling everything, but when I saw her, my body dissociated what was happening,\u201d Orozco said.<\/p>\n<p>Orozco said the emotional toll has been just as severe as the physical injuries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a parent, you don\u2019t want them to feel that\u2014you can\u2019t shelter them from the world,\u201d she said. \u201cMy daughter\u2019s traumatized, and I can\u2019t take that away from her. As a parent, you want to fix things, but this is probably one I can\u2019t fix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The teen, Ayane, said she continues to experience fear and anxiety following the attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just scared,\u201d she said. \u201cMy heart starts beating fast. When I see someone I know, I panic, and I want to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made as detectives work to identify those involved.<\/p>\n<p>Orozco said the Phoenix Union High School District has taken steps to help her daughter feel safe returning to school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey really are standing up, and I do appreciate the school and the district,\u201d she said. \u201cThey\u2019re doing what they\u2019re supposed to do, and I\u2019m grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As her daughter recovers, Orozco said the family hopes sharing their story raises awareness and leads to accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want her to fall through the cracks,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t want my daughter to think someone can do something like this and nothing\u2019s going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family is also facing mounting medical bills as the teen continues her recovery.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A high school student is recovering from being hospitalized in an assault by multiple boys.
