A man was stabbed on board a 4 train in Lower Manhattan<\/a> during an apparent robbery attempt on Tuesday afternoon, police reported.\n<\/p>\n

The NYPD<\/a> has launched a search for the suspect behind the attack, which sources said occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on April 14 near the Wall Street station on the 4 line in the Financial District.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement sources said the victim, a 27-year-old man, was on board a Brooklyn-bound 4 train when he became involved in a confrontation with another straphanger, which devolved into a robbery attempt. During the incident, the other straphanger stabbed the man in the lower left stomach, then fled the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis guy was bleeeding heavy, cops were rushing everywhere,\u201d said one eyewitness, Marco Fernando.<\/p>\n

Officers from the 1st Precinct<\/a> and NYPD Transit District 2 responded to the incident. EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.<\/p>\n

Police sealed off the entrance to the Wall Street station near Trinity Church as the investigation unfolded. Witnesses recounted the chaotic scene inside the station after the incident.\n<\/p>\n

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation. Police described the suspected assailant as a man with a dark complexion who was last seen wearing a ski mask, a hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants while carrying a black backpack. He was last seen fleeing southbound on Broadway.<\/p>\n
