Abrams<\/a>, which marks his first as director since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI love franchises, but felt like I needed to get back to telling original stories,\u201d the director said on stage at <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/cinemacon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cinemacon\" data-tag=\"cinemacon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CinemaCon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tStarring <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/glen-powell\/\" id=\"auto-tag_glen-powell\" data-tag=\"glen-powell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Glen Powell<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/jenna-ortega\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jenna-ortega\" data-tag=\"jenna-ortega\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jenna Ortega<\/a>, The Great Beyond has been a mystery since it was first announced, with its logline kept under wraps, though we now know the film concerns a young newlywed couple struggling to survive against a supernatural entity. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe first look sets the tone as someone is typing H.G. Wells on an early generation computer \u2014 \u201cThere is, though I do not not know how there there is, or how it may be, another world\u00a0out of sight and sound.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWe hear in voice over that the couple is looking \u2026 for something more. \u201cThe world you think you know the limits of, you can\u2019t even begin to fathom.\u201d It seems they may find it. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAbrams directed the film from his own script, also producing alongside Tommy Gormley via Bad Robot. Slated for release on November 13, pic\u2019s cast also includes Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever, and Samuel L. Jackson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Great Beyond preview comes following the news that Abrams\u2019 Bad Robot will be <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/04\/j-j-abrams-bad-robot-downsizing-close-la-office-new-york-1236772493\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reducing its footprint<\/a>, continuing to operate with a smaller in-house team out of New York, while closing its Los Angeles office. The company remains under its first-look film and TV deal at Warner Bros. at least through end of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn film, the company\u2019s next title up for release is David Robert Mitchell\u2019s sci-fi thriller The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, which releases via Warners on August 14 and was also touted today in Vegas.
